Nowadays Casa do Governador is a property with 3 “Houses”: 6-bedroom Villa - Casa Original (Original House), 5-bedroom Villa - Dourada (Golden) and 1-bedroom Villa - Casa dos caseiros. The 28acres property is located in an ecological reserve area, of which 5acres are vineyards. In the 19th century, our 6-bedroom Villa was used as an infirmary and quarantine place for the old friars of Convento do Espinheiro, where, according to the legend, vines were seeded and wine was produced by the friars. In 2002 our 5-bedroom Villa was used as a family home presenting an unusual architecture and in 2020 it was rebuilt. Each room has a personalized design, bringing us back to the last century, but with contemporary details. Our 1-bedroom - Casa dos caseiros (as its name implies, was the home of those responsible for the property when the owners were absent) - consists of a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom. All divisions are equipped with technology to meet the visitor's need and guarantee their comfort. At the Casa do Governador grounds you can also enjoy carriage rides, local cuisine cooked by our in house chef, use our swimming pool, take walks in our vineyards and interact with horses and sheeps. The Casa do Governador (Governor's House) was established in 2012. The House went through a renovation, going from a family country house to what we know today. The Casa do Governador has been passed on from generation to generation and, in order to keep its history alive its original features were preserved and highlighted with contemporary rustic decor. It is located 3km away from Évora's city centre and 500m away from the Convento de Espinheiro. This ideal location allows the visitor to experience Alentejo's countryside serenity but still be close to the city.
