Gofio has been a staple part of the Canarian diet for many years and is rather like flour made from toasted cereals. It was believed to be the main food of the Guanches, the native people of Tenerife and remains a popular dish to this day.
Outdoor Pursuits
Lanzarote is know as the Hawaii of Europe, which should tell you something about the waves that you can expect on a surf trip here.
The surf, swell, weather and location are almost identical to that of Fuerteventura, and even the waves are similar. It can get big, powerful waves firing off its reefs throughout October to March, but is consistent enough throughout the rest of the year.
No matter what level of surfing you are currently at there is something to offer you a good time at Lanzarote. Experienced surfers can test their mettle on waves such as La Santa Left (The Slab) and El Quemao - the Pipeline of the Canary Islands.
Carnival Of Santa Cruz De Tenerife
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is held each February in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the largest island of the Canary Islands, Spain and attracts people from all over the world.
It is considered the second most popular and internationally known carnival, after the one held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Partially for this reason, the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is twinned with the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The festival has two parts: the official Carnival, and the Carnival on the street. The official carnival has more than a hundred groups, including murgas, comparsas, rondallas and other musical groups.
