MORE ABOUT LANZAROTE
Food
A speciality here is escaldon de gofio de caldo de pescado - a rich fish stew made with gofio and vegetables. An excellent place to try the traditional cuisine of Lanzarote is in the restaurants of the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism.
It is often served with the traditional sauces called “mojo rojo and “mojo verde. Aside from fish, seafood is also a common ingredient in many parts of Lanzarote. One of the most important native dishes served in the Canaries is the stew called Sancocho.
Beaches
When it comes to beaches Lanzarote has a lot to offer. You will find here fine, light-coloured sandy beaches, fascinating black volcanic sand, as well as wild stony beaches. Whether you want to do some sunbathing, or roar into action with water-sports activities such as surfing, you will find something for you here in Lanzarote.
Playa de las Conchas. On the small island of La Graciosa, you will find a collection of small coves known as Playas de las Conchas. Just look at those waves.
Night Life
Centro – the central section of the main strip in the Avenida de las Playas - is the epicentre of nightlife in Puerto del Carmen. Here you will find a big selection of late night bars and clubs – such as Tequila Bar, Mulligans - and discos such as Tropical.
At the San Antonio end of the Avenida de las Playas is the Cafe del Carmen, which operates more as a lounge venue, with DJ's instead of live music.
The liveliest areas for nightlife in Lanzarote are the island's capital, Arrecife and the resort of Puerto del Carmen. Both Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise tend to be quieter although there are live music venues and bars in each resort as well.
Outdoor Pursuits
Lanzarote is know as the Hawaii of Europe, which should tell you something about the waves that you can expect on a surf trip here. The surf, swell, weather and location are almost identical to that of Fuerteventura, and even the waves are similar.
It can get big, powerful waves firing off its reefs throughout October to March, but is consistent enough throughout the rest of the year.
No matter what level of surfing you are currently at there is something to offer you a good time at Lanzarote. Experienced surfers can test their mettle on waves such as La Santa Left and El Quemao - the Pipeline of the Canary Islands.
